Why can't I set up my foot pedal (i.e., foot pedal setup wizard crashes)?

Typically crashes on set up are caused by a conflict with other USB devices. So our first suggestion is to:

1. Unplug other USB devices
2. Unplug and re-plug in your USB pedal
3. Restart InqScribe
4. Try the food pedal setup wizard again.

If the crash continues, there might be another issue. Please send us a bug report from InqScribe:

1. Go to the Help menu and choose “Report a Bug…”
2. Make sure “include system information” is checked.
3. Describe the issue in the subject field and click send.

Fortunately, there is an easy workaround, which is to manually assign shortcuts to your foot pedal buttons. Here are instructions for manually setting up the foot pedal:

1. Unplug and re-plug in your USB pedal
2. Start InqScribe
3. Select “Edit Shortcuts…” from the “Edit” menu.

We’re going to reset your settings to their defaults, just in case you have some old settings that are conflicting. If you’ve set up a lot of other shortcuts, you may want to write them down first.

4. Click on the “Reset to Defaults” button. This will delete all the shortcuts and revert you back to the factory default shortcuts.
5. Click “Add” to create a new shortcut.
6. On the right side of the screen, choose a shortcut command from the Command menu. A good one to start with is “Play until Released”. Optionally, you can optionally assign a skip back duration.
7. On the right side of the screen, click “Define Trigger”. You may now press any key including a foot pedal button. Press the main foot pedal button and it should show up in blue next to “Trigger:” You should see the blue text change to something like “Button 1 on USB Foot pedal.”
Click OK.

If you’re not seeing anything, try typing any other key. You should see the key name show up in blue, e.g. “J”.

If you can see key assignments, but not pedal assignments, then more than likely InqScribe won’t be able to talk to your pedal.

8. Click “Done” to save your shortcut.

You can repeat this process for each foot pedal button.
