If you are trying to use the AI "Transcribe" function to automatically generate a transcription for a .wav file and experiencing consistent crashes during the transcription, the problem is likely your WAV file's format.  For example, during the transcription, you might see an error like this in the document window:

Job: transcribe file:///Combined_2024.11.wav using model "ggml-tiny.bin"

"C:\Program Files\InqScribe v3.0.0.423\InqScribe Resources\wav-trans.exe" "Combined_2024.11.wav" "C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Local\Temp\rbt648B.tmp"

The crash is probably happening when we are converting your file to a format that Whisper can work with.  Specifically, your WAV probably uses an unsupported codec or subformat.

The good news is that we can get around this by transcoding the audio file to a .wav file Most audio converter apps will work.

Here's one that we have tested and it works on both Windows and macOS:

1. Download and install the free "Free Audio Converter" app, aka "fre:ac" from https://www.freac.org/ -- this is a well regarded audio conversion application.
2. Start "fre:ac"
3. Drag your problem audio file to "fre:ac"
4. Select the "Encode" menu and select  "Start encoding with..." > "LAME MP3 Encoder v3.100" (you can also use the dropdown menu to select the "LAME MP3" encoder).

5. After the transcoding is complete, you find the transcoded file by clicking the "Open" button at the bottom of the screen.
6. Open the transcoded file in InqScribe and your transcription should now work.

You might try other audio formats if audio quality is an issue.  For example, "Windows Media Audio Encoder: Windows Media Audio Voice 9 (.wma)" can work.
